„Clickworking“ on the Internet – Planetopia tests job opportunities on the web

Making money on the Internet: How much can you earn? Planetopia tested it – from the registration to the first payment. Planetopia tests the job opportunities of humangrid and two other platforms using text creation as an example. The result is clear, but just have a look for yourself:

Capacity problems solved

As we previously mentioned in our last blog entry, the growth increase in August did not have only positive effects. At times, the humangrid platform ran so slowly that one could hardly work with it. The problem could actually be solved quickly within a day, but it clearly demonstrates what challenges a small startup company has to face.

With relatively little effort, we endeavor to create something new here and time and again we encounter the so-called chicken-egg problem.

Take as an example the ratio of available work to willing clickworkers. If we don’t have enough qualified clickworkers for certain tasks, we do not get work. If we don’t have enough work, we don’t get enough clickworkers, or the clickworkers we already have look elsewhere for work.

And when everything fits, as it has in the past few weeks, the system reaches its limits and will have to be expanded. And so on and so forth. That is one reason why it never gets boring in a startup company. That is also why working here is so much fun.

After we had doubled the capacity of our hardware platform in the last few weeks, things really took off. There were over 12,000 addresses to be researched on the Internet. After the system was brought up to speed, more than 6000 addresses were researched in a single night. At times, out of our pool of over 4000 clickworkers, up to 400 were working on it simultaneously.

The job that was supposed to have run for two to three weeks was completed within 3 days. So now we quickly need to get more jobs on the platform. All in a day’s work at a startup company.
